Pineapple is a juicy, sweet and sour tropical fruit which is also full of nutrition. In the world, its production is highest in Indonesia and Philippines, while in India it is also produced in West Bengal, Tripura, Assam, Karnataka, Vazhakulam and Meghalaya. You can also grow pineapple in a pot at your home very easily. For this, neither you need to buy seeds nor you have to plant any kind of graft. You can grow it only from the crown i.e. the upper part of pineapple.
Pineapple is a plant of Bromeliad family which can also be grown from leaves. Generally this plant is about 3 to 4 feet high and its leaves are produced at the same distance in width. This is the reason why you can easily grow it even in a pot at home. The specialty of the pineapple plant is that if taken proper care of, it can survive for 15 to 20 years. How to prepare the root from the crown?
The upper part of the pineapple bought from the market, i.e. the crown, has to be separated, but do not cut it with a knife. Apply pressure to the crown with your hands and separate it from the pineapple. Now you can eat pineapple. To grow this plant, only a crown is needed.
- Remove the layer of 3 to 4 leaves near the lower part of this crown.
- After this, leave it like this for 1 to 2 days so that the moisture reduces.
- Now fill a glass jar with water till the top and put the prepared crown in it and leave it for a few days.
- After 2-3 weeks you will see that roots have emerged. Now it is ready to be planted in the soil.

method of preparing soil
The formula for preparing soil for pineapple plant is to mix 30 percent garden soil, 30 percent compost, 20 percent sand and 20 percent coco peat. You also have to add some neem cake in it. After this, mix everything well.
Planting a pineapple plant like this
To grow a pineapple plant, you will need a pot at least 12 to 13 inches wide and equally deep. Fill it with prepared soil and then make a hole in the middle and plant the rooted crown in it. Do not press the soil too much and then add some water to it. Do not add too much water in the beginning. Water only when the top soil appears dry. After 2 weeks, when the plant starts growing properly, start deep watering it.

Important things about pineapple plant
- After planting the plant, protect it from direct sunlight for 1 to one and a half weeks, i.e. keep it at a place where there is shade.
- The rainy season is best for planting pineapple, because it grows easily with natural irrigation and moisture.
- Planting just one pineapple plant is not enough. Plant at least 4 to 5 plants, because from one plant you get only 1 fruit in a season.
- You can grow other plants from the side shoots of this plant so that its fruit bearing cycle continues.
- The plant that has been planted starts drying up after bearing fruits, but other small plants start emerging from it and pineapples grow on them.
- If you have planted a pineapple plant, you need patience to get fruits, because it starts bearing fruits in 1.5 to 2 years.
- You can grow pineapple varieties like “Queen” and “Mauritius” which start bearing fruits in 12 to 14 months.
