According to mythology, the Kartik Purnima fair held at Garhmukteshwar is said to have a deep connection with the Mahabharata. Pandavas won over Kauravas in the 18 day long Mahabharata war. Many warriors and soldiers lost their lives in this war. In this war of Mahabharata between families, family members and relatives died. Seeing all this the Pandavas were immersed in grief.
Shri Krishna brought the Pandavas to bathe in the Ganga.
After the Mahabharata war, when Lord Krishna saw the Pandavas drowning in grief, he became upset. After this, Lord Shri Krishna brought the Pandavas to the Garh area in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh for a bath in the Ganga, so that the Pandavas could find peace. Lord Shri Krishna and Pandavas stayed here for several days and then took a dip in the Ganga on the day of Kartik Purnima. After this, a lamp was donated, so that the souls of the deceased relatives could rest in peace.
It is said that since then a fair is organized in Garhmukteshwar on the day of Kartik Purnima. Ganga bath is taken. After this a lamp is donated.
