Sehra had purchased two lottery tickets for Rs 1,000 from a shop in Punjab’s Bathinda after borrowing money from a friend. After buying the tickets, he went to Jaipur, where his mobile phone stopped working due to some issue.
The street vendor was contacted after he won the lottery. However, he could not be reached out as his mobile phone was consistently off. Four days later, Punjab government officials contacted him, and today he was handed the prize cheque.
An emotional Sehra said he did not even have enough money to visit Chandigarh to fulfil the formalities to claim the lottery prize. “It is God’s blessing that he gave me ‘chhappar phad ke’ (an unexpected and large reward),” said Sehra, who sells vegetables on a cart.
With tears in his eyes, the vegetable seller said that he would use the money for the education of his two young children. He further said that he will also give Rs 1 crore to his friend, Mukesh, who lent him money to buy the lottery ticket.
