This tech company will remove 9,000 employees from jobs, the biggest trimming in 2 years

Microsoft, a large IT sector company, is once again trimmed. The company is fired about 4% of its employees i.e. about 9,100 people. This step of the company is considered to be the biggest retrenchment after 2023. This information has been revealed in a report by Seattle Times. The big companies of America are now gradually trimming employees in different sectors. The reason for this is increasing economic uncertainty and reducing expenses. A similar trend was seen last year.

Microsoft had about 2.28 lakh employees worldwide till June 2024. However, the company has not yet given any official answer to this trimming. According to a report by Bloomberg News, Microsoft was already planning to lay down thousands of sales department.

6 thousand employees were taken out in May

Microsoft had earlier also fired around 6,000 employees in May 2025. This step was considered to be the biggest layoff up by the company in the last few years. After this, it was reported that in the beginning of June, more than 300 people were fired from their jobs. Bloomberg revealed this based on the notice given to Washington State.

More impact on sales and marketing

Like last time, this time is not being trimmed only on software engineers or product developers. This time most of the trimming will be of those who work directly to customers, such as sales and marketing. As of June 2024, about 45,000 employees were working in the company’s sales and marketing teams, which is a large part of the company’s total workforce. The company gave indications of this change in April 2025 only when it announced that it would now do software sales work for small and mid-size business with third-party agencies.
