Gopichand Hinduja Death: Gopichand P. Hinduja, Chairman of Hinduja Group, died in London on Tuesday, 4 November 2025. He was 85 years old and was ill for the last few weeks. Gopichand Hinduja, popularly known as JP in business circles, belonged to the second generation of the Hinduja family. He took over the reins of the group after the death of his elder brother Srichand Hinduja in 2023. There is a wave of mourning in the industry after the news of his demise. His close friend Lord Rami Ranger said, ‘GP Hinduja was a very humble, kind and inspirational person. His departure is like the end of an era.
One of the richest business families in the world
Gopichand Hinduja was a big name not only in India but also in the British industry. Hinduja Group has been ranked number 1 in Britain’s Sunday Times Rich List for four consecutive years. His wealth was estimated at around 35.3 billion pounds (more than ₹3.7 lakh crore). Under his leadership, the group attracted world attention by converting London’s Old War Office (OWO) into a luxury hotel.
Worked as a bridge between India and UK
Gopichand Hinduja was known for strengthening the economic relations between India and Britain. He often used to say at business events, ‘Our aim has always been to become a bridge between India and the UK.’ He believed that investment in the Indian market was the way to the future.

In August 2025, Gopichand Hinduja was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Lokmat Global Economic Convention. In his career, he took the Hinduja Group to new heights in many countries. His business is spread in 48 countries like Automobile, Oil, Finance, Healthcare, IT, Power and Real Estate.

Gopichand Hinduja has left behind his entire family. His family includes wife Sunita Hinduja, sons Sanjay and Dheeraj Hinduja, daughter Rita Hinduja, his other two brothers Prakash and Ashok Hinduja are still handling the major responsibilities of the group. Gopichand Hinduja was not only an industrialist but was also active in social service. He always used to say, ‘Business should not only be for profit but also for the welfare of the society.’
