New Delhi: Star Indian players Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma have been named in the ICC Women’s World Cup Team of the Tournament following their triumph in the 50-over World Cup. India beat South Africa by 52 runs to win their maiden ODI World Cup in Navi Mumbai on Sunday.
The title-winning Indian stars thus dominated the women’s Cricket World Cup team of the tournament making it to the list which was announced on Tuesday. All the three players player a stellar role in Women in Blue’s maiden triumph at the showpiece event, after coming very close to the win in the 2017 and 2005 editions.
Apart from the Indian players, players from runners-up side South Africa have also made it to the list with captain Laura Wolvaardt chosen to captain the Team of the Tournament after he special efforts with the bat where she amassed a whopping 571 runs at an average of more than 71 to shatter the record for most runs at any single edition of the women’s World Cup.
From the Australian team, Annabel Sutherland, Ash Gardner and leg-spinner Alana King have featured in the list after the side reached the semifinals of the event. From the English team, Sophie Ecclestone was included in the list after some strong efforts that helped her side reach the semifinal where they went down the Proteas. Compatriot Nat Sciver-Brunt is named as the 12th player.
Opening batter Mandhana scored 434 runs at an average of 54.25 with one century and two fifties while Rodrigues, on her part, made 292 runs at an average of 58.40 with the help of one century and one fifty.
