New Delhi: Uncertainty looms over India’s tour of Bangladesh in August as reports suggest that it could be postponed by some time. As reported by news agency AFP, the tour to Bangladesh needs clearance from the Indian government as per a senior Bangladesh cricket official.
The series, which includes three one-day internationals and as many T20 matches, is scheduled to start on August 17 in Dhaka. However, BCB media committee chairman Iftikhar Rahman confirmed to the news agency that the tour needs clearance from the Indian government as informed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India and hence, it might a delay.
However, the Indian cricket board is yet to comment on the matter. He also said that the tour can’t be cancelled as it a part of the FTP (International Cricket Council’s Future Tours Programme). Since cancellation is not an option, it may certainly be rescheduled to a convenient time mutually agreed on by both the boards. Further details could not be learnt.
Tour yet to get clearance from Indian government
The report further reveals that the tour was awaiting a green light from the Government of India and it should have been sent till now if it had to begin on time. But since their has been no correspondence in the regard form India, it might face a delay.
The uncertainty regarding the tour happened due to recent diplomatic tension between Dhaka and New Delhi after Bangladesh’s mass uprising toppled then prime minister Sheikh Hasina in August 2024. Bangladesh toured India in September-October 2024 for two Tests and two T20 matches. With the Asia Cup 2025 scheduled to be held in September, it needs to be seen that during which window will the tour be adjusted.
