Many people who do gym use supplements like protein powder, creatine, BCAA so that muscles grow faster, recovery is good and performance in training is better. During workout, there is pressure on our muscles, due to which their tissues are affected. To repair these, the body needs more protein, amino acids and some nutrients. If these nutrients are available in sufficient quantity in one’s diet, then it is not necessary to take supplements. But people whose diet is not properly balanced or who are doing high intensity training, they start using supplements as extra support, that is, supplements do not replace the diet, they only fill the gap.
supplement Taking it is really necessary only when your body needs extra nutrition and food is not providing it. For example, if a person is doing a very strict workout, is in the phase of gaining weight or gaining muscle or has less protein sources in his diet like vegetarian people who are not able to get enough protein from food every day, then giving protein supplement under the guidance of a doctor/dietitian can be useful. Similarly, things like creatine, fish oil, vitamin D or multivitamins are beneficial only when the test results are low or the training strength demand is high. That is, proper use of supplements should be condition based, and not in the name of trend or fashion.
Is taking gym supplements good or bad for the body?
Dr. Bhavuk Garg of the Department of Orthopedics at AIIMS Delhi. It is said that supplements are not wrong in themselves, but taking them without the advice of a doctor or nutrition expert can harm the body. The biggest danger is of overdose. Many people start taking more scoops in order to get quick results, which increases the pressure on the liver and kidneys. There is also a risk of adulteration or steroid mix in some supplements, especially in unauthorized brands and cheap powders.
Apart from this, if you have any pre-existing medical condition, like kidney problem, high uric acid, fatty liver, thyroid, then taking supplements without checking is extremely risky. Therefore, the right way is to first improve the diet, increase protein and nutrition in the food. If you still feel the need, start taking supplements only after taking the advice of a doctor/sports nutritionist.
