The Maharashtra government has banned the Marathi film ‘Khalid Ka Shivaji’ on charges of incorrectly introducing history and distributing Hindu sentiments and canceled Cons selection, demanding an inquiry from CBFC.
Khalid ka shivaji ban: The Marathi film Khalid, who was selected for Cannes, faced strong criticism to Shivaji allegedly introducing history and sharing Hindu sentiments. Maharashtra’s Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar has also announced to ban the release of the film. At the same time, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) requested to investigate these claims. Shelar has written a letter to the censor board saying that if the film actually “presents history incorrectly” then action should be taken against it.
Khalid’s ban on Shivaji, will not perform in Cannes
Shelar commented on complaints against the film on Friday, saying, “The government took immediate action on receiving complaints that Khalid’s Shivaji movie spreads misinformation and hurts emotions. We have taken this step by keeping pace with Shiva devotees and society. He further said,” We will remove this film from the selected list of Kan Mahotsav and also sent an email about this. I have taken a letter to CBFC, taking a stance that if the film spreads lies and hurts emotions, action should be taken. CBFC has also initiated proceedings on the basis of complaints, accused of incorrectly presenting history in the film. “
