New Flight Ticket Refund Rules: Now the hassle of repeatedly paying charges for canceling or making changes in flight tickets is going to end. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has proposed a major relief for air passengers. Under this, you can now cancel or change the ticket within 48 hours of booking. The biggest thing is that you will not have to pay any extra fee for this. Let us know what is the new rule…

What is the new plan of DGCA?

DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) is soon going to make major changes in ticket refund and cancellation rules. According to the new proposal, if you have booked a ticket and your travel plan changes for any reason within 48 hours, you can cancel or reschedule the ticket without any penalty. The only difference will be that if you choose another flight, you will have to pay the normal fare. There will be no separate charge for this.

In how many days will I get the refund of canceled flight ticket?

Now airlines are also being made accountable. DGCA has said that airlines will be required to give refund within 21 working days. This will provide relief to those passengers who used to wait for refund for months. Even if you have purchased the ticket from a travel agent or online portal, the responsibility of refund will remain with the airline. DGCA has clarified that agents are authorized representatives of airlines, hence the responsibility of returning the money will be on them.

Worry about mistake in name in flight ticket ends

If you have accidentally typed something wrong in the name while booking the ticket, now you can correct the name within 24 hours, that too without any charge. This facility will be available only if you have purchased the ticket directly from the airline’s website.

On which flight tickets will these rules not apply?

DGCA has also clarified that this new 48-hour ‘look-in option’ will not be applicable on every ticket. For domestic flights, this rule will be applicable only if your flight is 5 days after booking. For international flights, this limit has been fixed at 15 days. That means, if your flight is nearby, then this facility will not be available.

Special relief in medical cases

If a passenger cancels a ticket due to illness or medical emergency, the airline may give a full refund or issue a credit shell so that you can travel at a later date. DGCA has sought suggestions from the public and travel sector on these new rules till November 30. After this the process of implementing them will start.
