Himachal Weather Alert: IMD issued an orange alert for heavy rains on 11-12 August in Himachal. 202 deaths from monsoon so far. Rainfall 35% more than normal in August.
Himachal Pradesh Rainfall Yellow Alert: Monsoon continues to wreak havoc in Himachal Pradesh. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy rains in the state for the next few days. Orange alert has been issued in Chamba, Kangra and Mandi districts on 11 and 12 August, while Yellow will be alert in the rest of the districts.
For the last 24 hours, many areas including the capital Shimla (Shimla) have been raining. Sandeep Kumar Sharma, senior scientist at IMD Shimla, said that light to moderate rains are likely in mid and lower hill districts from August 8 to 10, but rain may intensify on August 11-12.

202 deaths from monsoon so far
According to official data, 202 people have died in monsoon incidents since June 20. Of these, 108 deaths were caused by rain, floods and landslides while 94 people lost their lives in road accidents.
Latest rain update
- August 8: Possibility of heavy rains in Solan, Mandi, Sirmaur and Shimla.
- August 9: Yellow alert in Kangra, Una and Sirmaur.
- From the night of August 10, a new round of rain will start and continue till the morning of August 11.
- 11-12 August: Orange alert in Chamba, Kangra, Mandi, Yellow alert in the rest of the central hill districts.
Rain figure more than normal
So far in August, the rains in Himachal have been 35% more than normal. Almost double rains have been recorded in Solan, Kullu, Kinnaur, Bilaspur and Una. The state received 13% more rainfall than the seasonal average between June 1 and August 8. Shimla recorded the highest rainfall, while Mandi recorded 65% more rainfall than average. No major flood alert has been announced so far, as the rain is light in many areas.
