Bhopal. On the occasion of World Sickle Cell Day, a state level program will be organized in Omkareshwar, Madhya Pradesh on 19th June. President Smt. Draupadi Murmu will attend this program as the chief guest. Governor Mangubhai Patel and Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav will also be present in the program. This event is considered to give a new direction to the efforts being made by the state government to eradicate sickle cell disease.

Big achievement of Madhya Pradesh in sickle cell eradication campaign

Madhya Pradesh has registered remarkable progress under the campaign being run against sickle cell disease. Large scale screening campaigns have been conducted, especially in tribal dominated areas. Till now, more than 1 crore 32 lakh 43 thousand 877 people have been tested in the state.

During the investigation, 39 thousand 948 sickle cell patients and 2 lakh 42 thousand 648 carriers have been identified. Apart from this, sickle cell cards have been provided to more than 1 crore 20 lakh 28 thousand 881 people. 3,700 Sickle Mitras have also been trained to raise awareness at the community level and provide support to patients.

Patients are being constantly monitored through digital monitoring

The state government has started using the National Sickle Cell Portal to improve identification, monitoring and treatment of patients. Arrangements for screening, tracking and digital monitoring have been made through this portal. This initiative is enabling regular monitoring of patients and ensuring timely treatment. Along with this, special attention is also being given to sickle cell screening of pregnant women, maternal and child health protection and special medical management.

Free medicines and blood transfusion facility

To provide essential health services to the patients affected by sickle cell, the government is providing facilities like free medicines, necessary tests and blood transfusion. Due to this, patients are getting better treatment and health security.

Awareness campaign is gaining momentum in tribal areas

To make people aware about sickle cell disease, campaigns are being run on a large scale in the tribal areas of the state. Besides, regular training is being given to field health workers, medical staff and management officials. Necessary vaccination services are also being provided to prevent infection, so that the health of the patients remains better.

Beneficiaries joining disability benefits and social security schemes

Disability certificate, UDID card and benefits of various pension schemes are being provided to the eligible persons affected by sickle cell. Apart from this, regular health check-up camps and awareness programs are being organized in schools, colleges and hostels, so that awareness about the disease can be increased among the youth.
