Crude oil became cheaper but shipping cost increased the tension, know how much petrol and diesel is available in your city today.

petrol and diesel

On one hand, there is a continuous decline in the prices of crude oil, while on the other hand, the cost of transporting it has suddenly increased. Even though the war has come to an end amidst the ongoing tension in West Asia, Iran has created new tension by indicating to collect toll on the Strait of Hormuz. Despite this, Indian oil companies have not made any change in the prices of petrol and diesel today, Friday, June 19, 2026, giving relief to the general public. Fuel prices remain stable across the country.

Shipping costs increased due to Iran’s new move

Even after the war between America and Iran has stopped, the clouds of crisis have not completely dispersed. To compensate for the huge economic loss caused by the war, Iran is now expressing its intention to impose toll tax on the Hormuz Passage. This has had a direct impact on transportation due to which there is news of huge increase in shipping cost. However, the interesting thing is that amidst all this, crude oil has become cheaper in the international market even today. In this morning’s trade, Brent crude fell 1.33 percent ($ 1.06) to $ 78.79 per barrel. At the same time, WTI crude also fell by 1.08 percent ($ 0.82) and was seen trading at $ 75.03 per barrel.

There was a shock of inflation last month

Even though the prices at the pump may be stable at present, a lot of burden has been put on the common man’s pocket in the last month itself. The prices of petrol and diesel in India have not changed since May 25. You will remember that after the assembly elections of five states were over, the prices were increased four times in just 11 days in May. Government oil companies first increased petrol by Rs 3 and diesel by Rs 3.29 on May 15, 2026. After this, on May 19, petrol was made costlier by 87-91 paise, on May 23 again by 87-91 paise and on May 25, petrol was made expensive by Rs 2.61 and diesel by Rs 2.71.

Oil companies are suffering losses worth crores every day

Since the start of the Iran crisis, there was a huge jump of about 50 percent in the prices of crude oil. Even though it seems to be softening now, the economic impact of the old expensive crude still remains. According to an estimate, due to the increased prices of crude oil, Indian government oil companies are facing huge losses of about Rs 750 crore every day on petrol, diesel, aviation turbine fuel (jet fuel) and LPG.
