Tech Layoffs 2025: The year 2025 has been no less than a major setback for the tech industry. According to the report, so far this year, more than 112,000 tech employees have been laid off in 218 companies. Giants like Amazon, Intel, TCS, Microsoft and Google are also laying off employees on a large scale due to AI and automation. These cuts have been seen not only in America, but also in many countries of India, Europe and Asia. In the race for AI and cost control, traditional jobs are rapidly disappearing, which has created an atmosphere of uncertainty in the tech world.

Retrenchment figure crosses 1 lakh in 2025

According to the report of Layoffs.fyi, so far this year 112,732 employees have been laid off in the tech sector. This layoff trend started from the beginning of January and February and more than 24,500 jobs were lost in the month of April. This trend has accelerated due to increasing use of AI, cost savings and business restructuring. Its impact is not limited to Silicon Valley only, but IT hubs like India have also been badly affected by it.

Amazon laid off 30,000 people

Amazon has eliminated 30,000 corporate roles in 2025 by running its biggest layoff drive ever. These cuts were made in Amazon Web Services, Operations and HR departments. CEO Andy Jassy said that AI-driven automation, over-hiring and re-structuring of the management layer are the main reasons for this. The aim of the company is to work like the “world’s largest startup”, so that operational costs can be reduced.

Intel lays off 24,000 employees

With the new leadership, Intel also took a big step and reduced the workforce by 22%. The company carried out large-scale layoffs in countries like America, Germany, Poland and Costa Rica. Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan cited the increasing competition in the chip industry and focus on AI-based systems as the reason. These cuts were often made after performance appraisal and division-based reviews.

Impact of AI in India too, TCS reduced 20,000 jobs

India’s leading IT company TCS laid off about 19,755 employees in the September quarter. This is the biggest layoff in the history of the company. Mid and senior level roles were most affected. TCS is now focusing on AI based projects, due to which the demand for employees with old skills is decreasing. Besides, contraction in global demand and US-India trade tensions are also being cited as the reasons for this.

Thousands of jobs lost in Microsoft, Google, Salesforce too

Microsoft laid off about 9,000 employees in a year. Many tech and non-tech roles including software engineers, product managers were affected by this. Google made several rounds of layoffs in its cloud, Android and TV divisions, affecting more than 100 design and engineer roles. Salesforce eliminated 4,000 positions in its support team due to AI automation. The company admitted that now more than 50% of customer queries are being handled by AI systems themselves.
