Star Indian batter Virat Kohli has finally landed in the United States as he gets ready for the T20 World Cup which starts on Saturday (June 1).
Virat, who did not travel with first batch of squad last week was spotted at the team hotel and the airport on Friday (May 31). Having arrived late in the United States, it is unlikely that Virat will participate in the warm-up match against Bangladesh on Saturday.
Virat arrives in the US
“Virat Kohli has checked in at the team hotel and after a long flight, he will be taking a rest,” a senior BCCI source confirmed his arrival.
After a 16-hour flight, Virat arrived in New York and rushed to the team hotel to take rest. The former Indian captain has been in superb form in big tournaments. He was the Highest run scorer in the ODI World Cup back in November while he also bagged the Orange Cap at the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL 2024). In 15 matches he scored 741 runs highlighting his importance to the side.
The former India captain was given an extra break after the IPL and was with his family before linking up with the squad. This is not the first time Virat has arrived late for Team India, having also taken a break during the South Africa series. He arrived in South Africa from India before leaving for England and then again returning to the Rainbow Nation.
India will have huge expectations from the former skipper who is bidding to win his first T20 World Cup. He finished runners-up in the 2014 edition when India lost to Sri Lanka. Suspense still surrounds what position Virat will play at the T20 World Cup as he is rumoured to open the batting while few have suggested he bat at No.3.
