Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reviews the relief and rescue operations in Dharali on the second consecutive day. Chief Minister Dhami has announced that he will donate his one-month salary to disaster relief work.

According to Garhwal Division Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey, 44 people were evacuated on Friday, news agency ANI reported.

Pandey said that officials were listing the loss to public and private properties while looking for missing people in the worst-hit Dharali.

While the rescue operation is underway to trace the stranded individuals, as per officials, two more bodies were recovered on Thursday, and 58 were reported missing, including eight army personnel. The death toll from the disaster remains unconfirmed.

State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) officials said that over 400 people, including nearly 300 pilgrims and 100 local traders, were stranded in the Gangotri Dham area. On Thursday, 260 of them were rescued, officials said.

Chief Minister Dhami reviewed the disaster-affected areas of Pauri Garhwal on Thursday. “In this difficult hour of disaster, I stand with every affected family as a son and brother. On behalf of the state government, every possible assistance is being ensured for those impacted,” he said in a post on X.
Director, Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, Dehradun, Vineet Kumar Gahalaut said, “We are planning a reconnaissance but, currently, accessing the sites is difficult. Rainfall data that we have from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) suggests that this was not a cloudburst.”
The floods hit hotels and residential buildings in Dharali town, situated 8,600 feet above sea level. Giant water waves swallowed everything that came in their way, including people and homes.
Missing are being traced in joint operations between Indian Army, Indian Air Force (IAF), along with ITBP, NDRF, SDRF, BRO, and local volunteers.
