Peddi Hits Rs 200 Cr in Telugu, Flops as Pan-India Film

Ram Charan’s Peddi has turned out to be a disappointment at the Indian box office, with most of its collections coming from the Telugu market.

After the global success of RRR, Ram Charan has been trying to strengthen his pan-India image through big-budget films. However, Peddi has failed to create a strong impact outside the Telugu-speaking states.

With a reported budget of Rs 350 crore, the film needed a solid run in Hindi and other regional markets to recover its huge investment. But that did not happen.

Despite its overall underperformance, Peddi has achieved a major milestone in its original Telugu version.

According to Sacnilk, the sports action drama collected Rs 226 crore net at the Indian box office in 14 days. While the total appears impressive on its own, it is considered underwhelming given the film’s massive scale and budget.

Of the Rs 226-crore India net total, the Telugu version contributed Rs 200.48 crore. The Hindi-dubbed version followed with Rs 21.57 crore.

Although the Hindi version managed to cross the double-digit mark, the other dubbed versions failed badly.

The Tamil version collected only Rs 1.96 crore net, while the Kannada version earned Rs 1.69 crore. The Malayalam version could not even reach Rs 1 crore, ending with just Rs 30 lakh.

With Rs 200.48 crore from the Telugu version, Peddi has become only the ninth film to cross the Rs 200-crore net mark in a single Telugu-language release.

The other films to achieve this feat are Baahubali 2, Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo, RRR, Salaar, Devara, Kalki 2898 AD, Pushpa 2 and Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu.

Peddi also became the sixth-fastest film to cross Rs 200 crore net in Telugu, reaching the milestone in 14 days.

RRR achieved the feat in just three days, while Pushpa 2 took five days. Baahubali 2 and Kalki 2898 AD reached the mark in seven days, while Salaar took 11 days.

Peddi comes next with 14 days, followed by Devara at 16 days and Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu at 17 days.

Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo remains the slowest among the group, taking 47 days to cross Rs 200 crore net in Telugu.

While Peddi has created history in its home market, its weak performance in other languages has once again raised questions over Ram Charan’s pan-India box office pull after RRR.
