A special occasion was witnessed on Thursday at Omkareshwar, a pilgrimage site of spiritual and religious importance in Madhya Pradesh. The country’s President Draupadi Murmu reached the pilgrimage city Omkareshwar during her visit to Madhya Pradesh, where she visited the famous Jyotirlinga Mamleshwar of Lord Shiva and Omkareshwar temple and prayed for the welfare of the countrymen. Special arrangements were made in the temple premises and surrounding areas for the President’s arrival. There was enthusiasm among the devotees and local people regarding his visit.
Offered Belpatra and blessed the Nandi statue.
According to temple traditions, President Draupadi Murmu first took blessings by offering Belpatra on the statue of Nandi Maharaj. After this, he entered the sanctum sanctorum of Mamleshwar Jyotirling and performed anointment and worship of Lord Shiva as per the rituals. The temple priests performed special puja with Vedic chanting and religious rituals. During this, the President prayed for the happiness, prosperity, good health and progress of the nation.
Mamleshwar holds a special place among the twelve Jyotirlingas.
Omkareshwar and Mamleshwar temples are counted among the major Shiv Dhams of the country. According to religious beliefs, this place holds special importance among the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. Every year lakhs of devotees from India and abroad come here for darshan. This visit of the President is being considered important from religious and cultural point of view. He also spent some time in the temple premises and got information about the spiritual traditions there.
Public representatives welcomed
On reaching Omkareshwar, Madhya Pradesh Governor Mangubhai Patel welcomed the President by presenting him a bouquet. After darshan and worship, mementos were also presented to the President by the local public representatives and the temple management. He was presented with Narmadeshwar Shivalinga, conch and a photograph of Lord Omkareshwar Tirtha as a memento. There was a festive atmosphere in the entire area regarding the President’s visit. This religious visit of President Draupadi Murmu was not only related to faith, but is also considered to give a new identity to the cultural and spiritual heritage of the country.
