Anand Mahindra and Harsh Goenka’s response to Trump’s decision

On 6 August, US President Donald Trump took a big decision regarding India. He announced an executive order to impose 25% of additional tariffs on exports going from India to America. Due to this, the total tariff on India has increased to 50%. The move of Trump has provoked Indian industrialists. RPG Enterprises Chairman Harsh Goenka and Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra expressed their displeasure on social media. Harsh Goenka said, “You can impose tariffs on our exports, but not our sovereignty.” At the same time, Anand Mahindra described the move as ‘law of unintended consequences’ and gave two big suggestions for India.

You can tariff our expenses, but our sovereignty. Raise Your Tariffs- Well Raise Our Resolve, Find Better Alternatives, and Build Self-Reliance. 🇮🇳 India Bows to None. pic.twitter.com/xjmhcyxwxr

Harsh Goenka said India will not bow before anyone

In the business world of India, there was a sharp response to Trump’s move. Harsh Goenka, chairman of RPG Enterprises, said in clear terms that India will not compromise on its sovereignty. He wrote on the social media platform X (East Twitter), you can impose a fee on our exports, but not our sovereignty. We will strengthen the resolution, find alternatives and become self -sufficient. India will not bow down to anyone. This statement by Harsh Goenka gave a clear indication that Indian industrialists are not only financially economic but a political challenge.

At the same time, former CEO of NITI Aayog, Amitabh Kant wrote, “Trump has given us a chance to get a once generation, so that we can take the next big steps in reforms. We should take full advantage of this crisis.”

Trump has provided us a once in a generation options to take the next big leap on reforms. Crisis must be fully utilized.

Anand Mahindra told the move to America upside down

Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra said Law of Unintended Consequences – Yani a decision that can only make the opposite effect for the person who takes the opposite. He saw this opportunity as a big opportunity for India and gave two important suggestions to the government. According to him, this time can be a decisive turn like 1991, when India started big economic reforms.

The law of unintended consequences seems to be operating

Anand Mahindra gave two suggestions

1. To do business easy, single window system becomes easy

Mahindra said that India should now move beyond small reforms to implement a comprehensive Ease of Doing Business Policy. Under this, a single window clearance system should be prepared so that investors can get all the approval in one place. He suggested that it should be started with those states which are ready to adopt this policy. If India can show investment, transparency and stability, then it can become the most reliable destination for global investors.

2. Make tourism engine engine

Anand Mahindra also said that tourism in India is a less used opportunity which can become a great source of both foreign currency and employment. He suggested the government to simplify and intensify the visa process, improve tourist facilities and prepare a special tourism corridor in the country. In these corridors, it was said to pay special attention to security, cleanliness and better infrastructure.
