How to file ITR without Form 16? Step-by-step process
- First of all, gather information about all your income sources such as interest, freelance or business income from salary slip, bank statement, FD or investment
- Download Form 26AS and AIS. Both these documents are found on the income tax portal. These contain your TDS, tax payment and high-value transactions.
- Calculate your total income. It should include salary, freelance earnings, rent and interest on FD. Subsequently, tax exempted deductions like 80C, 80D and HRA reduce taxable income.
- Now you have to choose the form according to your income. If the earnings are only salary or rent from a house, then fill ITR-1. But if you do freelancing or run a small business, then choose ITR-4.
- Now go to the official website of Income Tax and register or log in.
- Fill the correct ITR form, add all income sources and deductions, submit tax calculations and submit it.
