Bhopal/Betul. President Smt. Draupadi Murmu has said that empowerment of any society should not be limited to economic progress only. Real development is considered when people develop self-confidence, self-respect, awareness and sense of responsibility. He said that the tribal society is a society that lives with dignity and self-respect and this is its biggest identity.
President Murmu was addressing the “Empowerment of Tribal Society by Spiritual Awakening” program organized by Brahma Kumari Institute in Betul district of Madhya Pradesh on Thursday. He is currently on a five-day tour of Madhya Pradesh. On the first day of his stay, he reached Betul and participated in this important program.
Gave the message of environmental protection by planting Rudraksh tree.
Before reaching the venue, the President planted a Rudraksha sapling. It is considered full of religious importance as well as medicinal properties. He gave the message of environmental protection through tree plantation. After this, when he reached the stage, the artists of Gondi tribal Kadapara group welcomed him by presenting traditional folk dance. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav welcomed the President at Indore Airport. The Chief Minister said that this visit of the President is very important for the state.
Role of tribal society is important in the goal of developed India 2047
President Murmu said that India has set a target of becoming a developed nation by the year 2047. This goal can be achieved only when no section of the country is left behind from the mainstream of development. He said that it is our collective responsibility to protect the cultural and natural heritage of India from the Himalayas to Kanyakumari. He also said that from time to time attempts are made to mislead the tribal society, hence such conferences can play an important role in their social, spiritual and overall development.
Appreciation of education, health and tribal welfare schemes
The President appreciated the education, health and tribal welfare schemes run by the Madhya Pradesh government. He specifically mentioned sickle cell anemia and said that the possibility of this disease is more in tribal areas. He said that effective efforts are being made for its eradication and expressed hope that these initiatives will significantly improve the health status of the tribal society.
Betul’s culture and traditions are an inspiration for the entire country.
President Murmu said that Betul district is recognized across the country for its rich tribal culture, natural beauty and spiritual consciousness. The tribal communities here have preserved their traditions, folk knowledge and cultural values for generations. He said that the vibrant form of life values like cooperation, collectivism, honesty, simplicity and spirituality can be seen in the culture here. This mega conference focused on the empowerment of tribal society is important not only for Betul or Madhya Pradesh but for the entire country.
Importance of spirituality in modern times more than ever
The President said that Brahma Kumari Institute has expanded its programs by keeping women at the center. The institute’s spirit of service, internal purity and sensitivity towards nature inspires the society. He said that in today’s fast-paced life, the importance of spiritual values and inner purity has increased more than ever. These values develop a feeling of equality, sensitivity and environmental protection in the society.
Tribal society example of harmony with nature
President Murmu said that at present the world is facing challenges like tension, conflict and war. In such times, the need for spiritual consciousness and a lifestyle related to nature increases further. He said that the tribal society has been living in harmony with nature for centuries. This society gives importance to the values of love, peace, happiness and non-violence. The tribal community considers earth, water, air, sun, moon and five elements as worshipable and considers the entire nature as the center of its worship.
Need to learn from tribal lifestyle in environmental protection
The President said that it is not possible to imagine life without earth, water and air. Tribal society does not exploit but conserve natural resources. He said that this society shows respect for nature before using the resources. Today, when the whole world is concerned about environmental protection, the lifestyle of tribal society can become a guide for humanity.
Expressing concern over the increasing use of chemical fertilizers and foreign pesticides, he said that this is affecting the fertility of the land and many types of health problems are also increasing. Natural farming has been a part of Indian tradition and today the country is again moving in the same direction.
Digital empowerment is necessary for tribal youth
President Murmu said that in the rapidly changing times, it is very important to connect the tribal youth with modern education, skill development and digital empowerment. He said that along with development, their cultural identity, traditions and spiritual heritage should also be protected. The balance between development and culture is the real foundation of a prosperous and strong society.
He said that when there is a confluence of service and spirituality, then permanent and positive changes are possible in the society. In this spirit, he called upon all citizens to contribute with more dedication in building a developed India 2047.
President visits exhibition of self-help groups and local products
During the programme, President Draupadi Murmu also visited various exhibition stalls. Women of self-help groups of Betul district are preparing many nutritious products including cookies, pasta, noodles, instant idli-dosa mix, porridge from millets like Ragi, Kodo, Kutki, Jowar and Bajra through Satpudanchal Producer Company.
2075 members of 175 self-help groups are associated with this company and they are getting additional income of Rs 8 to 10 thousand every month. The President also inspected the exhibition of Bharewa crafts, forest based products, Nanda Forest Honey, Betul Teak, Kukru Coffee and Shree Anna based nutrition. 18 types of nutritious dishes were displayed in the exhibition.
