New Delhi: Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar and Akash Deep were brought into the squad as India were invited to bat first by England in the Edgbaston Test on Wednesday. Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah was rested, as expected, while all rounders Reddy and Sundar were brought into the playing XI in place of Sai Sudharsan and Shardul Thakur.
England, which remains unchanged, won the toss on a sunny morning in Birmingham and opted to bowl first. This is the second consecutive time India lost the toss after losing it in the first Test match at Leeds as well. With three changes in the playing XI from the series opener, the visitors would be hoping for parity as they play a crucial contest from July 2.
Asked about Bumrah’s exclusion from thegame, skipper Shubman Gill at the toss said that it was done to manage his workload and the ace pacer would be seen in the third Test match at Lord’s which begins for July 10.
