The mother of Vozinha, the Cape Verde goalkeeper who stopped Spain in the FIFA World Cup, got a US visa. After an emotional appeal, the US government intervened and now she will watch her son’s next match in Miami.
Miami: Another good news has come for Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha, who surprised the world by holding a giant team like Spain to a draw in his very first match in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. His mother has finally got a visa to America. After the match, 40-year-old Vozinha told with tearful eyes that due to financial constraints and strict rules, his mother could not come to watch his match. After this news went viral, the American government itself intervened in this matter.
Big officials helped, removed all the rules
US House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries officially announced on Wednesday that Vozinha’s mother, Ana Candida Evora, has been granted a visa. Jeffries said he spoke to U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and asked the State Department to ensure Vozinha’s mother could watch Cape Verde’s next match. Actually, it is very difficult for ordinary citizens of Cape Verde to get a US visa. For this, a bond amount of about Rs 12.5 lakh has to be deposited.
Ana Candida works as a house cleaner and it was impossible for her to raise such a huge amount. For this reason his visa was rejected. But now considering this case as special, all the visa fees and bond amount has been completely waived off for Vozinha’s family. FIFA and the Cape Verde government are jointly arranging his travel.
Vozinha became a hero against Spain
Cape Verde, playing the first World Cup match in its history, was facing world number 2 team Spain. In this match, Spain attacked continuously, but goalkeeper Vozinha made 8 brilliant saves and became the hero for his team. He was also chosen ‘Man of the Match’. Before this match, Vozinha had only 50,000 followers on Instagram, which crossed 50 lakh (5 million) followers in a single night.
Mother and son will meet in Miami on Sunday
Cape Verde’s next group match is against a strong team like Uruguay this coming Sunday in Miami. Vozinha’s mother, Ana Candida Évora, will also be in the gallery cheering on her son at the historic clash. Mother’s presence on the biggest stage in the final stages of her career will surely give a new boost to Vozinha and the entire Cape Verde team.
