Gita Updesh: What are the 3 qualities that make up a person’s personality, which are mentioned in Gita?

Geeta sermon

Gita sermon: Shrimadbhagvadgita Geeta is a very special book of Hindu religion. Geeta was preached by Lord Krishna to Arjun. Lord Shri Krishna has said in Geeta that this world is basically created from three qualities. Human body and consciousness are also related to three qualities. The body is associated with Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Whereas consciousness is associated with Satva, Raja and Tama qualities. These three qualities related to consciousness are present in every human being in some proportion.

These three qualities create personality, nature and action in a human being, but which is the most correct and best quality for a human being? This can be known only after knowing about these three qualities. Lord Shri Krishna has mentioned all these three qualities in Geeta. Let us know about Satva, Raja and Tama gunas.

sattva guna

Sattva quality has been called the quality of truth and goodness. This is the quality that characterizes spiritual people. This quality is related to happiness, peace, well-being, freedom, love, compassion, equanimity, meditation, self-control, satisfaction, gratitude, fearlessness, selflessness. The level of this quality can be further increased through knowledge. Apart from this, this quality can be increased by satvik food, yogic lifestyle, positive and joyful state.

Raja Guna

Raja guna is said to be a state of movement and change. It is related to longing, attachment and attraction. This quality is related to the actions of the person. Raja Guna includes anger, anxiety, fear, irritability, restlessness, tension, chaos etc. To reduce Raja quality, one should not eat Rajasic food. Apart from this, one should try to give up material happiness.

Tam Guna

Tama guna is related to darkness and passivity. This quality is born in humans due to ignorance. The qualities in this guna include laziness, hatred, doubt, guilt, shame, addiction, indifference, confusion, grief, dependence etc. To reduce this quality, a person should not eat tamasic food. Apart from this, one should also avoid oversleeping, overeating, inactivity and scary situations.
