Maharshi Dayanand University Protest: At Maharshi Dayanand University in Rohtak, Haryana, there has been an allegation of making female sweepers remove their clothes to prove menstruation. There was uproar and demonstration in the university after the incident.
An incident that shakes the dignity of women has come to light in Maharishi Dayanand University (MDU) located in Rohtak, Haryana. It is alleged that some female sanitation workers working in the university were forced by their supervisor to take off their clothes and get photographs of sanitary pads taken to prove that they were menstruating. This incident is said to have happened on October 26, after which there was a stir in the entire campus and the students started protesting.
Supervisor gave inhuman punishment for coming late
According to the information, the female sweeper had reached late for duty that day. When supervisors Vinod and Jitendra asked the reason for the delay, the women told that they were unwell due to menstruation. On this, both of them accused her of lying and said that if she really has periods then give proof of it. It is alleged that after this both the supervisors instructed another female employee to take the cleaning workers to the washroom and take photographs of their sanitary pads, so that it could be proved that they were not lying.

“Asked to take photographs of private parts”
Female sanitation workers said that they were forced to “get photographs of your private parts taken to prove that you are menstruating.” When two women protested, they were insulted and threatened with termination. According to the women, this entire incident is a serious attack on their honor and privacy.
Protest broke out in the campus, students also demonstrated
As soon as the information about the incident spread, there was anger in the university campus. Other women employees and student organizations together protested against the administration. The students sent photos and videos to the chairperson of the State Women’s Commission demanding action. During this time, amidst sloganeering and demonstration, police reached the spot and took the situation under control.

FIR registered, investigation started, university gave statement
PGIMS police station in-charge Roshan Lal said that an FIR has been registered against both the supervisors. In the case, serious allegations like sexual harassment, use of force, attempt to outrage the modesty of a woman and criminal intimidation have been made under sections of the Indian Justice Code (BNS). “Investigation into the incident is ongoing, and no culprit will be spared,” he said.
Maharshi Dayanand University administration expressed deep regret over the incident and said that the safety or dignity of any female employee will not be compromised. The university said, “Any form of inappropriate behavior or misconduct will not be tolerated. Strictest action will be taken against the culprits.”
University administration is surrounded by demand for respect and questions
This incident has sparked a debate not only in Haryana but across the country regarding women’s safety and respect at the workplace. The question that arises is how such an incident can happen inside an educational institution, where the message of education and sensitivity is given.
