Did you know there’s a woman of Pakistani origin who has been sending rakhi for PM Narendra Modi for the past 30 years now? Well, yes!
Her name is Qamar Mohsin Shaikh. She was born in Pakistan’s Karachi and has been living in India post her marriage to Mohsin Shaikh. At present, she lives in Ahmedabad.
Handmade rakhis and their first interaction ever…
What’s special is that she prepares handmade rakhis for PM Modi. Yes! Every year she makes a lot of rakhis and for PM Modi, she carefully selects one that is the best. This year, she has picked out a rakhi featuring the sacred ‘OM’ symbol. Interestingly, she first met PM Modi when he was a worker in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). During their first interaction, Modi had asked her how she was and it was that brief exchange that marked the starting of their brother-sister bond. From then on, every year, the woman has either been tying rakhis on his wrist or sending him rakhis. She says that the bond she shares with PM Modi is one she cherishes deeply.
After he became a CM…
When Qamar went to tie rakhi to Modi after he became the CM, they had a sweet exchange. Apparently, PM Modi had told her that her wish had come true now that he had become the CM. After saying this, PM Modi asked her what she would wish now. To this, Qamar had said, “I pray that you become the Prime Minister of the country.” When her second wish also came true, she prayed that Modi would rule the whole world now. “Now India has made a name for itself in the world, and it has happened due to his hard work. Now I pray that all his problems go away,” she added.
