Donald Trump India tariff: US President Donald Trump has forced India to pay a heavy price for buying oil from Russia. On Wednesday, he signed an Executive Order, under which an additional 25% tariff will be imposed on 25% of the already implemented 25% duty on goods coming from India. Trump also revealed why he is only targeting India while China is also purchasing oil from Russia.
Trump’s direct target at India
When a journalist asked Trump why India is being targeted separately, while many countries including China are still buying Russian oil, Trump replied that it has been just 8 hours, you see what happens next. Many secondary sanctions will be seen.

What did India respond to American tariff
Describing the move as an inappropriate, unjust and impractical, India has said that it will take all necessary steps to protect its national interests. India accused the US of adopting double standards, saying that when America itself is buying Russian uranium hexaphloride, palladium and fertilizer, why is India being targeted? Not only this, Trump’s taunt that India can buy oil from Pakistan, has been taken very negatively in New Delhi.

Indo-US relations at stake?
Analysts believe that Trump’s move may cause two decades of US-India diplomatic progress. Ashley Tallis of Washington -based Think Tank Carnegie Endure for International Peace says: India is now stuck, Modi government will cut oil purchases from Russia under Trump’s pressure but cannot openly accept. With this, he will be seen bending in front of Trump.
Avon Figanbam, who has worked in the former Republican administration, warned that issues related to India such as Immigration, H1B visa, outsourcing and technology sharing are becoming the most politically explosive issues in the US. He wrote that issues related to India are becoming a football of American domestic politics.
