Bhopal. On the occasion of National Unity Day and 150th birth anniversary of Iron Man Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav flagged off the ‘Run for Unity’ marathon from Shaurya Smarak, Bhopal. On this occasion, he offered floral tributes to the pictures of Bharat Mata and Sardar Patel. The Chief Minister said that many great personalities contributed in their own ways towards the independence of the country and strengthened the unity of India.

Sardar Patel: Journey from an ordinary farmer family to the Iron Man of the country

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that Sardar Patel was from an ordinary farmer family, but he created history through his deeds and decisions. On the insistence of his elder brother Vitthal Bhai Patel, he went abroad and studied law. Both the brothers together played an important role in the independence of the country. Initially Sardar Patel was hesitant to join Mahatma Gandhi’s Satyagraha movement, but when he saw the injustice done by the British on the farmers, he joined Gandhiji. It was only after the Bardoli Satyagraha that he got the title of ‘Sardar’ and after that he played an important role in every movement.

Sardar Patel’s visionary thinking for the unity of the country

The Chief Minister said that every step of Sardar Patel is relevant and inspiring even today. When the British decided to leave India, they wanted the country to be divided into many pieces. He planned the partition of India-Pakistan and independence of 562 princely states. But Sardar Patel, with his intelligence, determination and patriotism, united all these princely states into India. He not only merged the princely states, but also created the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) to strengthen the foundation of future India. Patel believed that if India is to be kept united, then the administrative structure should be strong, so that no external force can weaken the country.

Somnath temple became a symbol of self-respect for India

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that the idea of renovating Somnath Temple was also Sardar Patel’s. He had said that this temple should be built with the help of the public and not with government money. This idea became a symbol of India’s cultural self-respect and self-reliance.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is following the thinking of Sardar Patel

Dr. Yadav said that today Prime Minister Narendra Modi is carrying forward the same thinking which was shown by Sardar Patel. Sardar Patel had said that India’s issues should be resolved in India itself, there is no need for interference from any third country. Even today, Prime Minister Modi sticks to this idea and has brought alive the ideals of Sardar Patel by building the ‘Statue of Unity’. The Chief Minister said, “If we follow the path shown by Sardar Patel, then no power will be able to look at India with evil eyes.” He wished all the citizens on National Unity Day.
