Sugarcane Revolution in UP: There is enthusiasm among sugarcane farmers due to the historic decision of Yogi government. CM Yogi said that now the profits of the hard work of the farmers are going directly into their accounts. UP has now become number one in the country in sugarcane, sugar and ethanol production.
Lucknow: Farmers of the state, happy with the decision to increase sugarcane prices for the crushing season 2025-26, reached the Chief Minister’s residence on Thursday. The farmers greeted Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, after which the CM interacted with them. Yogi said that for the first time after the formation of Modi government in 2014, farming and the interests of farmers came on the agenda of the government. Earlier no one was concerned about the health of the soil, but Modi ji changed this with the scheme of Soil Health Card. Also, PM Kisan Samman Nidhi provided relief to farmers from loans from moneylenders.
Now money is reaching farmers’ accounts directly
CM Yogi said that on the very first day of government formation in 2017, the promise of loan waiver of 86 lakh farmers was fulfilled. In the last eight and a half years, 23 lakh hectares of additional land has been irrigated. Earlier, farmers used to work hard, but the profits went to middlemen. Now the situation has completely changed. The government is making payments directly into the bank accounts of farmers, which has increased transparency and honesty.
Sugar mills were being closed during previous governments.
CM said that a state that insults Annadata can never progress. Previous governments neglected the farmers, due to which UP became a sick state. He said that under the previous governments, sugar mills were closed or being sold. But now the situation has changed. In the last 8 years, 4 new sugar mills have been established, 6 closed mills have been reopened and capacity expansion has taken place in 42 mills. CBG plants have been installed in 2 mills and 122 sugar mills are running, most of which are paying cane price within a week. Now the government is also moving towards building a sugar complex.
Increasing investment in sugarcane industry
The Chief Minister said that now new investment is coming in the sugarcane industry on a large scale. Sugarcane is no longer just a seasonal crop, but has become a sector providing employment throughout the year. CM said that industries like CBG, distillery and cogen plant are growing rapidly. He said, ‘Respect should not go to the government, but to the Annadata farmer, who has made UP number one in the production of sugarcane, sugar and ethanol in the country.’
Highest ever sugarcane price payment
The Chief Minister said that from 2007 to 2017, sugarcane payment of only ₹ 1,47,346 crore was made. Whereas a record payment of ₹2,90,225 crore has been made since 2017. Thus, Rs 1,42,879 crore more has been paid compared to previous governments. CM said that about 2.5 crore people are associated with the sugarcane sector and the government is working in everyone’s interest.
Employment to 10 lakh families from sugar mills
Yogi said that the slip system has become completely online through ‘Smart Sugarcane Farmer System’. Now farmers do not need recommendations or middlemen. About 10 lakh families have got livelihood through sugar mills. The government has also promoted the Khandsari industry. CM said that CBG plants, ethanol and sugar mills will be set up wherever needed.
Sugarcane mafia and Ghatauli are now a thing of the past: Minister Lakshmi Narayan
Sugarcane Development and Sugar Industry Minister Chaudhary Lakshmi Narayan said that eight years ago words like sugarcane mafia and Ghatauli were common among sugarcane farmers. But after the coming of Yogi government, these words have disappeared from the lives of farmers. He said that today UP is being led by a progressive farmer, who increased the sugarcane price to a record ₹80. The minister said that earlier the payment to farmers used to get stuck for years, but now it is being done within a week. Farmers are now getting better seeds, fertilizers and irrigation facilities. This is the reason why sugarcane area has increased from 20 lakh hectares to more than 29 lakh hectares. The government is continuously providing modern tools to the farmers through technological innovations. With these efforts, the farmers of Uttar Pradesh will become stronger in the coming time and the economy of the state will get new momentum.
