Belagavi Wife Murder Case: A shocking case has come to light from Belagavi district of Karnataka. Here a man has been arrested for murdering his wife. According to the police, the accused allegedly killed his wife to maintain a relationship with a widowed woman from his village and live with her. This incident is related to Sakkubai Patayat, a resident of Shindikurabet village of Gokak taluk. Police allege that she was murdered in a planned manner by her husband Santosh Patayat.
Accused took wife to temple on the pretext of ‘Adhik Maas’
Investigation has revealed that Santosh had taken his wife Sakkubai to Chamundeshwari temple located in Markumbi village of Bailhongal taluk. He told his wife that currently ‘Adhik Maas’ is going on and it would be auspicious to visit the temple. Both of them reached the temple and after offering prayers they started returning. During this time the accused allegedly executed his plan.
Allegation of giving poison by pretending to be Prasad
According to the police, while returning from the temple, Santosh mixed rat poison and powder of broken pieces of bangles in a soft drink. He gave this mixture to Sakkubai saying that it was the prasad of the temple. After some time, Sakkubai’s health started deteriorating and she started fainting.
Accusation of murder by strangulation in unconscious state
According to investigating officers, when Sakkubai became unconscious, Santosh took her to the roadside and allegedly strangulated her to death. Police say that after the murder, the accused tried to make the whole matter look like an accident so that no one would doubt him.
Bike dropped on dead body to show road accident
Police investigation has revealed that the accused dropped his motorcycle on his wife’s body, making it appear that she died in a road accident. It is being told that Santosh remained near the incident spot for a few hours. After this he himself called the police control room and informed about the incident.
Post mortem report revealed layers of murder
Finding the circumstances of Sakkubai’s death suspicious, the police sent the body to Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS) for post-mortem. The preliminary post-mortem report revealed that the woman had not died in a road accident, rather it was a case of murder. After receiving the report, the police expanded the scope of investigation and strictly interrogated the accused.
The accused confessed to the crime during interrogation
According to the police, during interrogation, Santosh confessed to his crime. He reportedly told the investigating officers that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with his girlfriend and hence he planned to eliminate his wife.
The accused was in a relationship with a widowed woman for four years
Police said that Santosh and Sakkubai were married about 9 years ago. Sakkubai was originally a resident of Kallar village in Dharwad taluk. Investigation also revealed that Santosh was in a relationship with a widow from his own village for the last 4 years. The police are now trying to find out how much this alleged love affair was related to the murder conspiracy.
Role of widow woman also investigated
Taking action in the case, the police arrested Santosh and sent him to Hindalga jail. Along with this, the investigating agencies are also finding out whether the widow woman with whom the accused is said to be in a relationship, also had any role in this murder. The police is investigating the case keeping all the aspects in mind.
