Indian cricket team’s star batsman Shreyas Iyer is currently admitted in a hospital in Sydney. He was injured while catching Alex Carey during the last match of the ODI series against Australia. His spleen was injured and he was kept in ICU due to internal bleeding. However, he is now out of ICU. He will have to stay in the hospital for the next few days and is on the way to recovery. Meanwhile, a big update has come out regarding his return.
Iyer will stay away from cricket for so many months
According to media reports, after Shreyas suffered an injury to his spleen, interventional trans-catheter embolization was done to stop internal bleeding, a process which is done to stop internal bleeding anywhere in the body. Due to this internal injury, Iyer may stay away from cricket for two months. Which is a big blow for Team India. Actually, during this time India has to play a three-match home ODI series against South Africa, in such a situation it is almost certain that Iyer will be out of this series.
After this, Team India has to play ODI series against New Zealand from January 11. It is considered difficult for him to play in this series also, because he will not get much chance to practice. In such a situation, Team India will have to search for a new batsman for number 4 in ODIs. Iyer has performed brilliantly for India at this position for some time now, so the team will definitely miss him in the upcoming series.
BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia also gave update
BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia, while talking to Times of India recently, gave a big update on Iyer’s injury. He said, ‘Shreyas Iyer is much better now than before. His recovery is happening so fast, which even the doctors were not expecting. Generally, it may take 6 to 8 weeks to recover from this injury, but Shreyas will recover much earlier than this. His injury was very serious, but now Shreyas is out of danger.
