New Delhi: Kia released a teaser of the upcoming Carens Clavis EV, with prices set to be unveiled on July 15th. This will mark Kia’s first mass-market EV coming to the Indian market, and will be competing with the BYD eMax 7, as the only other electric MPV. The Chinese carmaker have at present placed their MPV in the price range of Rs 26.0-29.9 lakh (ex-showroom price).
The Carens Clavis EV is likely to feature the same powertrains as the Hyundai Creta EV, having the option of both 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh options that will then be mated with a single electrical motor mounted on the front axle. Will numerical results of both powertrains might be identical to the Creta, due to its size, the Carens Clavis is much bigger, so some performance and range will be lower.
The Carens Clavis EV will look more or less like its internal combustion version, coming with the LED ‘ice cube’ patterned headlights that will extend into the front bumper, and have a slimmer LED light bar at the back. However, Kia will have the styling features that are meant for the EV, including the redesigned front and back bumpers.
Just like the exterior, Kia won’t be making big changes in the interior either for the EV. Kia might offer a premium, a more neatly organised dual-tone dashboard with the same dual screen setup with 12.3-inch infotainment and 12.3-inch digital driver’s display. Other features likely to be on offer include the wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ventilated front seats, panoramic sunroof, 4-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat, and premium Bose sound system.
The safety features will also be what is already on offer in the ICE version of the Carens Clavis and includes six airbags, front and rear disc brakes, traction control, ABS, along with EBD, with the Level 2 ADAS system coming at a costlier variant.
