Woman made to remove her clothes to ‘exorcise the ghost’, then beaten! Dirty work in the name of exorcism

A case of stripping a woman and assaulting her in the name of superstition has come to light in Maharajganj, Uttar Pradesh. After the video of this brutality under the cover of exorcism went viral, the police have detained six people. Investigation is ongoing.

Maharajganj News: UA heart-wrenching incident that shakes humanity has come to light from Maharajganj district of Uttar Pradesh. Under the guise of superstition and exorcism, a woman was not only stripped but was also brutally beaten. This entire incident took place in a village of Paniyara police station area on the night of Roop Chaudas, the video of which is now going viral on social media. After the video surfaced, the police swung into action and detained six accused and started questioning them.

Woman assaulted in the name of exorcism

In the viral video, it is clearly visible that two people are sitting in front of the woman and doing exorcism. Meanwhile, some other people come there, remove the woman’s clothes and start beating her. The accused claimed that the woman was “possessed by a demon” and the process of “exorcising” the demon was going on. Someone present at the spot made this video and later posted it on social media, after which this matter became a topic of discussion in the entire district.

Police took cognizance, six accused in custody

After the video went viral, Maharajganj police took immediate action. The police registered a case against unknown persons, identified the accused and detained six people on Wednesday. Paniyara police station incharge Ashish Kumar Singh said that in the preliminary investigation this matter has been found to be related to superstition. According to villagers, the woman was behaving “strangely” for the past few days, due to which exorcists were called.

The victim woman did not complain

Police said that till now no formal complaint has been given by the victim. However, the police took the initiative themselves and contacted the woman and advised her to lodge a complaint. Police have sent the viral video for forensic investigation. If the investigation confirms that the woman was forcibly stripped or tortured, then a case will be registered against the accused under serious sections.
