Ayodhya farmer Omprakash Singh offered Miyazaki mango grown in his orchard to Ramlala.
Miyazaki, the world’s most expensive mango, was offered to Ramlala, seated in the Shri Ram temple. Interestingly, this mango was grown by farmer Omprakash Singh, a resident of Ayodhya, in his orchard. The first mangoes prepared in the season were dedicated to the Lord. Miyazaki is a Japanese mango variety. Omprakash had planted this variety about two years ago and now a dozen mangoes have grown on the tree.Generally its price in the market is Rs 2.5 to 3 lakh per kg.
An average weight Miyazaki mango is available for 60 to 80 thousand rupees. Miyazaki is not called the most expensive mango for nothing. There are many merits behind this.
How special is Miyazaki Mango?
This mango is especially grown in Miyazaki province of Japan. This is the reason why it got this name. In the initial stages, this mango is purple in color and when fully ripe, it turns red. Its maintenance is also done in a special way. During production, it is kept in special net bags so that it gets adequate sunlight and the quality remains maintained.

Vitamin A, Vitamin C, antioxidants and beta-carotene are found in good quantities in it. Due to its size, color and sweetness, it is counted among the most premium mangoes in the world. In Japan its best varieties are also sold by auction.
When and how does it grow?
Generally the time of flowering on its tree is between December to February. Fruits appear between March and May. The time of plucking from the trees is between May and July. However, this also depends on the weather and climate of the area.

It requires a special kind of temperature to grow it. Temperature of 24°C to 35°C is considered suitable for this. The thing to keep in mind is that it needs adequate sunlight and should be protected from excess water. Each fruit is kept in a separate net bag so that it is protected from insects and the fruit does not get spoiled even if it falls. The tree is pruned from time to time so that the fruit gets adequate light and air.

Now this mango is being grown in many parts of India. It is being produced in some selected states including Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. Although it originated in India, it is not sold as the only mango variety in Japan. It is cultivated keeping in mind strict standards. Cultivation is done under quality standards, special farming techniques and under the supervision of scientists. This is the reason why it is sold there as a premium product.
How is it decided whether it will reach the international market or not?
Experts say factors like size, sugar content, color and post-harvest process determine whether a product is eligible for international markets or not. Miyazaki is a unique and valuable variety, its commercial success in India is still uncertain as market prices depend on demand, supply and competition. If its cultivation increases, it is not possible that the prices will not remain as high as today.
