CBSE introduced the ‘Phase-2’ exam to reduce student stress and prevent them from losing a year. But many are worried, ‘What if I don’t do well in Phase-2 either? Is my year gone?’ The short answer is no, you still have options. But what you can do next depends on how many subjects you couldn’t clear. Let’s break down the options if your improvement exam scores are low.

CBSE 10th 2nd Phase Exam Result: What are your options if you get low marks?

Case 1: Low marks in only 1 or 2 subjects

If you couldn’t clear just one or two papers in the Phase-2 results, there’s no need to panic. You will be placed in the ‘Compartment’ category. This means your academic year is safe. CBSE will conduct supplementary exams in July this year. This will be your third and final chance to save the year. Most schools give such students provisional admission into Class 11 so their regular studies aren’t affected. Your admission will be confirmed as soon as you pass the July exam.

Case 2: Low marks in 3 or more subjects

However, the rules are stricter if you fail in three or more subjects even after Phase-2. CBSE no longer uses the word ‘Fail’ on report cards. Instead, you’ll see ‘ER’, which stands for Essential Repeat. This means you have to repeat the class. In this situation, you cannot be promoted to Class 11, and your provisional admission will be cancelled. Students in the ER category cannot appear for the supplementary exams in July. They must register again for the next academic year and reappear for all 5 or 6 subjects.

A big relief in CBSE 10th Improvement Results

Here’s some good news. Whether you get a compartment or ‘ER’, you won’t have to reappear for your school’s practical exams or internal assessments. CBSE will carry forward your old scores, so you can focus only on the theory papers.

How to handle the atmosphere at home after the results?

Talk to your parents yourself

Parents get angry or tense because they are worried about your future. Instead of avoiding them, sit down and talk to them. Explain your plan, whether it’s studying for the July compartment exam or your next steps. When they see you’re taking it seriously, they’ll likely calm down.

Don’t lock yourself away or change your routine

Staying locked in your room all day only makes the atmosphere at home worse. Try to stick to your normal routine. Wake up on time, have meals with your family, and maybe go for a walk. Spend 3-4 hours studying your weak subjects, but let the rest of your day be as normal as possible.
