Bengaluru has lost humanity

He has written that from ambulance drivers to the police, everywhere he had to face people who had lost humanity, who were only asking for money. His only daughter, Akshay Shivakumar, 64, died at home of a brain hemorrhage on September 18, 2023, at the age of 34. After his daughter’s death, he has recounted one by one the bad experiences he had with the city ambulance driver, police, crematorium staff and death certificate officer.

The most painful thing he told was that even when his daughter’s body was lying in front, people were asking him for bribe. Police negligence, corruption and neglect by BBMP officials added to the grief of a father. At the end his question, “What will the poor people do?”, is heart-wrenching.

endured these bad experiences

He narrated how the ambulance driver asked for Rs 3,000 to travel from Kasavanahalli to St. John’s Hospital in Koramangala. How a police inspector insisted on post-mortem. Later one of his old employees helped. After donating the daughter’s eyes, when the body was taken for cremation, money was demanded there too. After waiting around for four days, the policeman asked for money for the FIR and post mortem report. He took the money in a corner of the police station where there was no CCTV. Officials also asked for bribe in BBMP office. In this way he faced corruption everywhere. He expresses concern that if this happens to him, what will the poor people do? He asks who will save Bengaluru from this bad condition? This question of Shivakumar is echoing in the entire Bengaluru city.
