Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday hit out at the Election Commission, claiming that the draft voter list of Bihar showed an entire village in Gaya district living in a single house.
Rahul Gandhi, who is carrying out ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in Bihar, shared a social media post of his party, which said, ‘See the magic of the Election Commission. An entire village has settled in one house.
Rahul Gandhi’s attack
The Congress post said that ‘EC performed a miracle in Nidani village, Bodh Gaya (Booth No. 161, Barachatti Assembly). In the official voter list – 947 voters live in the same house (house no. 6). reality? There are hundreds of houses and families in Nidani, but in the list the entire village was contained in one imaginary house. How did BLO do door-to-door verification? Why were the real house numbers disappeared from the voter list? Who is being benefited from this? This is not a simple mistake, but a joke in the name of transparency. When house numbers are deleted, it becomes easier to hide fake voters, duplicate names and ghost identities.
Election Commission responded quickly
The opposition party said, ‘This is just a matter of one village. We can only imagine the scale of irregularities at the state and national level. However, the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer of Bihar presented the clarification issued on the ‘X’ handle of the Gaya District Magistrate.
Gaya DM claimed
The District Magistrate claimed that ‘fictitious numbers are given to houses in villages or slums, where there is no actual serial number on the houses. This is done to simplify the process of enlisting voters.
Villagers upset with attempts to defame
Video clips purported to be of village residents have also been shared on the District Magistrate’s ‘X’ handle, in which people can be heard saying that they are satisfied with the particularly thorough vetting of the voter list, but are upset with the ‘efforts to defame the area’.
