According to official data released on Tuesday, the country’s industrial production (IIP) increased by four percent in September on the back of good performance of the manufacturing sector. Industrial production, measured in terms of the Index of Industrial Production (IIP), had grown by 3.2 percent in September 2024. The National Statistical Office (NSO) has revised the industrial production growth figures for August 2025 to 4.1 percent from the provisional estimate of four percent. According to the latest data from NSO, the production of the manufacturing sector increased by 4.8 percent in September 2025 while it increased by four percent in September 2024.

Mining production declined by 0.4 percent compared to a growth of 0.2 percent a year ago. Electricity generation increased by 3.1 percent in September whereas it had increased by 0.5 percent in the same period a year ago. The country’s industrial production grew by three percent during the April-September period (first half) of the financial year 2025-26, while it was 4.1 percent in the first half of 2024-25.

Increase in AC, refrigerator manufacturing

In the manufacturing sector, 13 out of 23 industry groups recorded positive growth in September, 2025 as compared to September, 2024. According to use-based classification, the capital goods segment grew by 4.7 percent in September 2025 as against 3.5 percent in the same period a year ago. The growth rate of consumer durables (manufacturing of ACs, refrigerators etc.) increased from 6.3 percent in September 2024 to 10.2 percent in the month under review.

The production of consumer non-durable goods declined by 2.9 percent in September 2025 compared to an increase of 2.2 percent a year ago. According to the data, the production of basic goods increased by 1.4 percent in September 2025, whereas it had increased by 1.8 percent a year ago. The expansion in the intermediate goods sector stood at 5.3 percent in the month under review, whereas it had increased by 4.3 percent in September 2024.
