When is Kartik Purnima 2025: Kartik month is considered the most sacred in Sanatan Dharma. Bathing, donating and donating lamps have special significance in this entire month, but the full moon day of Kartik month i.e. Kartik Purnima day is very important from religious and spiritual point of view. The virtue of bathing in Ganga and donating on this date is many times greater than the religious work done on any other day. It has even been said in religious texts that taking a dip in the holy rivers on the day of Kartik Purnima gives results equivalent to performing a hundred Ashwamedha Yagya. According to the Panchang, Udaya Purnima Tithi is happening on 5 November 2025 (Wednesday), hence as per Udaya Tithi, Kartik Purnima fast, bath and donation will be done on 5 November 2025.
Why is bathing in Ganga and charity so important on Kartik Purnima?
Arrival of Gods on Earth: It is believed that on the day of Kartik Purnima, all the gods and goddesses come to earth and take bath in the holy rivers, especially Ganga. That is why the water of Ganga becomes nectar on this day. A person who takes bath in Ganga or any other holy river on this auspicious date gets the blessings of the gods and is freed from all sins.
Significance of Tripurari Purnima: Kartik Purnima is also called Tripuri Purnima or Tripurari Purnima. According to mythology, on this day Lord Shiva killed a powerful demon named Tripurasura, who was troubling the gods. The gods were pleased with the victory of Lord Shiva and lit lamps in Kashi (Varanasi) and celebrated Dev Diwali. On this day, the blessings of both Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu are received together, which makes it extremely auspicious.
Day of Matsya Avatar: According to the scriptures, Lord Vishnu took the incarnation of Matsya on this date to protect the Vedas and the universe during the Doomsday. Therefore, by worshiping Lord Vishnu on this day, devotees attain happiness, prosperity and salvation.
Door of salvation: Kartik month is also called the month of salvation. Bathing, donating and fasting on Kartik Purnima frees a person from the bondage of birth and death and leads to salvation. It is believed that a bath taken in Brahma Muhurta on this day washes away all the sins of a person’s previous births and this birth.
Special significance of donation on Kartik Purnima
Along with bathing, charity is also given great importance on this day. It is mentioned in the scriptures that by donating as per one’s capacity on Kartik Purnima, one attains infinite virtue and brings happiness and prosperity in life.
Donation of food and money: Donating food, clothes, money or other necessary things to a poor person or a Brahmin is very auspicious. Mother Lakshmi is pleased with this.
Deepdan: Kartik Purnima is also called Dev Diwali. On this day, donating lamp (lighting a lamp) near holy rivers, temples, Peepal or Tulsi tree removes darkness and brings positivity and happiness in life.
Cow donation: If possible, donating a cow is also considered the best donation.
