According to a report by PTI, sources have confirmed that after Iyer went back into the dressing room, he immediately fainted. After that, he was rushed to a hospital in Sydney, where further inspections showed that he had a ‘laceration injury to the spleen.’

A source close to the development said that Iyer is stable now but it could have been fatal, had the team doctor and physio not taken the decision of rushing him to the hospital immediately.

“The team doctor and physio didn’t take any chances and took him to the hospital immediately. Things are stable now, but it could have been fatal. He’s a tough lad and should be fine soon,” the source said.

The source also confirmed that Shreyas Iyer has been in the ICU for the past few days, and as doctors detected internal bleeding, he would remain under observation for anywhere between two to seven days to stop the infection from spreading.

“Shreyas has been in the ICU for the past couple of days. After the reports came in, internal bleeding was detected, and he had to be admitted immediately. He will remain under observation for anywhere between two to seven days depending on recovery, as it was necessary to stop the spread of infection due to bleeding,” the source said.
