New Delhi. The air of the country’s capital Delhi is again becoming poisonous. The air quality of the capital is continuously deteriorating and now the government has taken a big step to stop it. From November 1, 2025, the entry of all commercial goods vehicles not following BS-VI norms has been completely banned in Delhi. The reason behind this decision is the deteriorating air of Delhi and the continuously increasing pollution level. The Air Quality Management Commission (CAQM) has ordered to stop the entry of all commercial trucks except BS-VI standard vehicles on the borders of Delhi.

Which vehicles will not be able to enter Delhi now?

According to the CAQM order, vehicles registered outside Delhi and not complying with BS-VI standards, such as old diesel trucks and vehicles below BS-IV, will no longer be able to enter Delhi. These vehicles are considered to be a major cause of pollution and when smog increases during the winter season, the air becomes worse.

Which vehicles will get entry exemption?

However, not all vehicles have been banned. Registered BS-VI compliant vehicles, CNG, LNG and electric vehicles have been allowed entry in Delhi. Apart from this, BS-IV commercial vehicles have been given temporary relief till 31 October 2026. That means, for the next one year, these vehicles will be able to move to and from Delhi under the transitional arrangement.

Will BS-IV trucks get more time?

  • Transporters were hoping that the Delhi government would increase the discount given to BS-IV vehicles, but this has not happened yet.
  • All India Motor Transport Congress chief Bhim Wadhawa said that now he has only one year’s time.

Meanwhile, Rajendra Kapoor of All India Motor and Goods Transport Association said that they will soon hold a meeting to decide whether the matter should be taken to the Supreme Court.

What is GRAP and what difference will it make?

  • Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) is already implemented in Delhi, which sets rules for taking strict action according to the level of pollution.
  • If the air condition worsens further, more strictness will be imposed on vehicles.
  • CAQM has clearly stated that these restrictions will remain in place during the different phases of GRAP.

Why are BS-VI compliant vehicles necessary?

BS-VI vehicles cause less pollution than older BS-IV vehicles. Their engines have advanced technology, due to which very little harmful elements are released in the smoke. For this reason, the government wants to completely implement the BS-VI standard by gradually removing the old standard vehicles.

Will your car not go to Delhi now?

  • If your vehicle is not BS-VI compliant, you may be stopped at the Delhi border after November 1.
  • This step may be difficult for the transport sector, but it is very important to keep the air of the capital clean.
  • The government aims to ensure that only BS-VI or clean energy vehicles run on Delhi’s roads by 2026, so that pollution can be completely controlled.
