Preparations for the major expansion of the second phase of metro in the city have started. According to the proposed plan, a new metro network of about 150 kilometers long will be developed, which is estimated to cost about Rs 30 thousand crores. The proposal prepared by Metro Rail Corporation has received the approval of the government. Now the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is being prepared. Under the plan, 10 new corridors will be developed, through which many big areas of Lucknow and surrounding areas will be connected by metro.
Metro will reach Barabanki, Unnao and Itaunja
In the proposed extension, there is a plan to provide metro to areas like Barabanki, Unnao, Itaunja, Sandila, Mohanlalganj and PGI. Apart from this, areas like Chinhat, Jankipuram, Kakori, Malihabad, Gosainganj, Banthra, BBD and Bakshi Ka Talab can also be connected to the network. According to officials, the construction work will be started after the completion of the tender process. The project aims to be completed in a phased manner over the next 10 years. After this major expansion, the Lucknow Metro network will reach the outskirts of the city, which will provide better connectivity to millions of passengers.
40 lakh people will benefit, time will be saved in travel
The biggest benefit of this expansion will be to the millions of people traveling daily. While at present it takes hours to reach the city from many areas, after the introduction of Metro, the travel time can be significantly reduced. It is estimated that about 35 to 40 lakh people will get direct benefits from it. The new DPR also proposes large parking areas, last-mile connectivity facilities like e-cycles and e-bikes for the convenience of commuters. If the plan is completed on time, the public transport infrastructure of Lucknow can be completely transformed in the coming years and people can get great relief from the jam.
