Chhathi Maiya’s Aarti
Today is the second day of Chhath Puja, the great festival of folk faith across the country. This festival is dedicated to the worship of Sun God and Chhathi Maiya. This festival has immense importance especially in the regions of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Nepal. This festival lasts for four days and special attention is paid to strict rules, fasting and purity.
Chhath starts with Nahay-Khay. On this day, people fasting take bath and eat pure food. On the second day, Kharna is celebrated, in which the devotees keep a waterless fast throughout the day and break the fast in the evening by making prasad of jaggery kheer, roti and banana. On the third day i.e. at the time of evening Arghya, devotees stand in a river, pond or reservoir and offer Arghya to the setting sun. The festival concludes with Usha Arghya on the fourth day, when devotees offer Arghya to the rising sun and pray for the well-being of the family and society. Also, everyone should perform the aarti of Chhathi Maiya during the puja.
