In Delhi acid attack case, ‘toilet cleaner’ twist emerges: Girl faked attack, father held for rape

New Delhi: The Delhi acid attack case took a 360-degree U-turn in 24 hours, as on October 26, a 20-year-old woman lodged a case against three men for an alleged acid attack on her. She also claimed that she suffered injuries while protecting her face and was admitted to the Deep Chand Bandhu hospital.

The incident sparked massive outrage, as the woman was a Delhi University college student, and she was travelling to college to attend an extra class. According to her, three men were stalking her for days before attempting the acid attack.

But now, after a preliminary probe, the woman confessed that she fabricated the acid story against three men under the influence of her father.

To understand the context, out of these three men, one named Jitender from the group had already filed a case against the woman’s father (Aqeel) earlier. Before the pre-planned acid attack, Jitender’s wife registered a rape case against Aqeel, as he shared her obscene photos with her husband. An FIR was lodged against Aqeel on charges of rape and the IT Act, and he was also arrested by the Delhi Police on Monday, October 27.

To avoid the FIR and to take revenge on Jitender’s family, Aqeel and his daughter made up an acid attack story.

 20-year-old woman’s false claim

She was a second-year B.Com student from Delhi University’s Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board. She accused Jitendra and his two friends, Ishan and Arman, who are brothers, of following her on a motorbike when she was travelling to her college for an extra class.

She also claimed that Jitendra was driving the bike, and Ishan passed a bottle to Arman, and then Arman threw the acid-like liquid at her. She tried to protect her face, but to save herself, she suffered burns in both her hands.

In the police investigation, there were multiple discrepancies in the women’s version. At the time of the incident, Jitender’s location was in Karol Bagh, and to solidify Jitender’s case, his phone location, CCTV footage, and witness statement helped him.

Another CCTV footage also revealed that the woman left her home with her brother on a scooter, but her brother didn’t drop her off at the main gate of the college.
