According to some traditions of Ramayana, Ramcharitmanas and many Puranas, Lord Ram, Mother Sita and Lakshman ji spent their days of exile in Panchavati. One day Lord Rama realized that the big game of time was about to begin, after which he said to Mother Sita, ‘Listen Priya, I am interested in Susila, I am doing something beautiful. I reside in you holy place. Let me plant barley, nocturnal nose.’
That is, Shri Ram laughingly said to Mother Sita, O dear! Listen now I am going to do a beautiful human leela. You reside in the fire until I destroy the demons. After this Lord Ram remembered Agni Dev. Agni Dev appeared, then Lord Ram said to him, O Agni Dev! Keep Sita safe in your sacred fire for some time. Agni Dev obeyed God’s orders.
Maya Sita appeared
After this, at that very moment Mother Sita went under the divine protection of Agni Dev. Then Maya Sita appeared in his place. A shadow which looked exactly like Mother Sita. Her appearance and behavior were all the same, but she was not the real Mother Sita. Then the game of destiny started and the Sita whom Ravana abducted was Maya Sita. That means the real Mother Sita never reached Lanka.
Ravana continued to think that he had abducted Sita ji, but during the entire Lankan war, Mother Sita was under the protection of Agni Dev. Then came that moment which even today people know as Agni Pariksha. After the death of Ravana, Mother Sita was brought from Ashok Vatika, then God asked Mother Sita to enter the fire. After this, as soon as Mother Sita entered the fire, Maya Sita merged into the fire.
The world came to know the secret
Then Agni Dev appeared with the real mother Sita. Then Agni Dev declared Mother Sita to be completely pure. At that moment the world came to know the secret of Maya Sita and real Sita. That is, the fire test was not a test of doubt, but a moment to establish the purity and divinity of Mother Sita in front of the whole world.
