PV Sindhu ends 2025 season early after failing to recover from foot injury

Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu announced on Monday that she is ending her 2025 season early due to a foot injury. Sindhu has not competed on the tour since September, when she Super 750 tournament.

Sindhu took to social media on Monday to confirm that she has yet to recover from the foot injury she sustained before the European leg of the tour. Her medical team has advised her to take an extended period of rest to recover fully from the latest setback. Sindhu has missed several major tournaments over the past two months, including the Arctic Open, Denmark Open, and French Open.

This is the third time in four years that Sindhu has ended her season early because of injury concerns. The stress fracture she suffered at the 2022 Commonwealth Games was her first major setback, and it had a cascading effect on her form in the following seasons.

“After consulting closely with my team and with the guidance of the incredible Dr Pardiwala, we felt it was best for me to withdraw from all remaining BWF Tour events in 2025,” Sindhu said in a post on X.

“The foot injury I sustained before the European leg has not fully recovered, and while it is never easy to accept, injuries are an inseparable part of every athlete’s journey. They test your resilience and patience, but they also spark the fire to come back stronger.

“A recovery and training are already in motion. Under the constant care of Dr Wayne Lombard, the support of Nisha Rawat and Chetna, and the guidance of my coach Irwansyah, I am surrounded by a team that gives me strength every single day. Their belief in me fuels my own, and I feel motivated, grateful, and hungrier than ever for what lies ahead.

“Thank you all for your endless love and support, it truly means more than words can express. The journey continues soon,” she added.

Screengrab from XSindhu, 30, showed signs of returning to her peak form earlier this year after joining hands with coach Irwansyah. The coaches at the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy, including Vimal Kumar, had advised the two-time Olympic medallist to plan her schedule carefully, giving her body enough time to recover between events and avoid burnout.

in Paris, where she beat World No. 2 Wang Zhi Yi in the pre-quarter-final. The 2017 champion looked sharp and appeared to have regained her attacking rhythm in the tournament before falling to Putri Kusuma Wardani in the last-eight round.

Sindhu has struggled to win titles in recent years. The five-time World Championships medallist ended a three-year title drought in 2024, when she won the Syed Modi International Super 300 in Lucknow in November. However, she was unable to progress beyond the quarter-final stage in any tournament this year.
