New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath addressed a gathering at the Smriti Mahotsav Mela 2025 on Monday, October 27. The Adityanath-led government has been known for renaming several cities and railway stations since the BJP came to power in Uttar Pradesh.
In addition to the list, the UP CM proposed renaming Mustafabad village in Lakhimpur Kheri district to ‘Kabirdham.’ This decision aimed to restore the village’s historical and cultural identity.
As per Yogi, the change would restore the area’s historical and cultural identity associated with Sant Kabir. He also added that this decision was in line with the government’s renaming of other villages or cities previously.
“Those who ruled earlier renamed Ayodhya as Faizabad, Prayagraj as Allahabad, and Kabirdham as Mustafabad. Our government is reversing that — restoring Ayodhya, restoring Prayagraj, and now reviving Kabirdham to its rightful name,” the Chief Minister noted.
Yogi pointed out that he was shocked when he came to know about Mustafabad village, as the area didn’t have any Muslim population. Despite this, the village is known as Mustafabad. Following the incident, the idea of renaming the area came into his mind.
“When I asked about this village, I was told its name is Mustafabad. I asked how many Muslims live here, and I was told there are none. Then I said the name should be changed. It should be called Kabirdham,” he told the audience.
Yogi Adityanath takes a jibe at opposition
UP CM also took a dig at the opposition in the gathering by accusing them of spending money on building the ‘walls of Kabristhans (burial ground).’
The current government uses the direct funds for cultural and religious resurgence projects to uplift pride among people within the state, as per Yogi.
Yogi emphasised that his government takes all measures to develop and enrich all places of faith across the state.
