Murdered due to a bad habit
- According to the police, the incident took place at around 6 am in the morning near the gate of a Gurudwara in Guru Nanak Colony. Annapurna police station in-charge Gopal Yadav told ANI that the accused Mukesh Sharma was addicted to alcohol and he was having a long-standing quarrel with the deceased Kailash Modi over this issue.
- SHO Yadav said, “The accused Mukesh Sharma and his three brothers lived in the premises of the Barah Matha temple. Due to his alcohol addiction, he often had conflicts with the temple trustee and president Kailash Modi. There had been several altercations and fights between the two in the past as well. Last year too, a case was registered against the accused in a similar dispute and there was tension between the two parties for some time.”
When thrown out of the temple, he became a murderer
- Police said that after this Sharma was barred from staying in the temple premises. Since then he started living on the footpath outside the temple and worked as a labourer. “Because of this, Sharma was refused permission to stay in the temple premises. Thereafter, he did not live inside the temple, but slept outside on the footpath and worked as a labourer. He was addicted to alcohol and was always found in an inebriated state,” the officer said.
- Yadav told that when Modi reached the temple complex on Tuesday morning, there was an argument between the two. He said, “This morning, when Kailash Modi reached the temple, Sharma was there and an altercation broke out between the two. Later, the accused Sharma attacked Kailash Modi with a stick near a gurudwara located in Gurunanak Colony and beat him to death. The accused has been taken into police custody and is being interrogated.”
