Sandhya Arghya Dos And Don’ts: Chhath Puja is a great festival dedicated to Sun God and Chhathi Maiya. This is a great festival of faith, purity and strict discipline. Today is the third day of this four-day great festival i.e. the day of Sandhya Arghya. Arghya will be offered to the setting sun this evening. The fasting people and their families have to follow some special rules during this period. These five things should not be done even by mistake at the time of Evening Arghya. Do not do these five things during Sandhya Arghya (Sandhya Arghya Donts)
- On the third day i.e. evening Arghya, the fasting people should not consume food and water from sunrise till sunrise the next day.
- If there is no fast, then while making Prasad or decorating the Arghya soup, one should not touch it without washing hands.
- Prasad should not be made while being impure. Even the puja material should not be touched.
- Work related to Chhath Puja should not be done wearing slippers.
- One should not get angry on the day of Evening Arghya. One should not abuse anyone.
What to do in evening Arghya? (Sandhya Arghya Dos)
Keeping the time of sunset in mind, one should make all the preparations and reach the bank of a holy river or a water pond made at home. Vrats should wear pure and traditional clothes. During the Arghya, people fasting and participating in the Arghya should keep purity in mind. The fasting person should take the soup in his hands, or with some help, and offer Arghya of milk and Ganga water. The stream of Arghya should be towards the setting sun. While offering Arghya, keep in mind that the sun’s rays should be visible through the stream of water. Vedic mantras should be chanted while offering Arghya. After offering Arghya, the ghee lamp kept in the soup should be lit and floated in water or kept on the banks of the ghat. The story of Chhath fast should be heard at the ghat. After Aarti, one should pray to Chhathi Maiya for the long life, happiness, prosperity and health of the children.
