The 36-hour Nirjala fast during Chhath Puja starts after Kharna. This rigorous fast ends with Usha Arghya on 28th October. On the second day of Chhath Puja, devotees prepare special prasad in the evening after sunset. This prasad is the last meal for the devotee, as consuming it begins the 36-hour fast. 36 hours waterless fast
A strict fast of 36 hours is observed during Chhath Puja. This fast starts after eating Kharna Kheer and is broken on the fourth day in the morning by offering water to the Sun. During this 36-hour fast, devotees do not even consume water, hence it is called “Nirjala Fast”. This fast is concluded on the fourth day at sunrise after offering water and worshiping the Sun.

During this time, offerings like fruits are arranged in bamboo baskets and offered to the setting sun.
